Belonging 23.01.26

Dear Families

I am delighted to see so many children living out our school value of Work Hard and engaging their Growth Mindset from the very first week back. All we ever ask is that our children try their best, we cannot ask for more and it is lovely to reward them with our Proud Points!

A reminder that you must not park in the staff bays and only those with a blue badge or parking permit are allowing in the car park – thank you.

Monday Assembly – You belong

At East Hunsbury, we want every child to feel a strong sense of belonging and to know they are a valued part of our school family. On Monday, our assembly focused on helping children learn more about one another and deepen their understanding of their classmates. We explored the brilliance of diversity and the importance of celebrating what makes each person unique. Back in class, children have continued this work by finding out more about their peers, strengthening friendships and building an even more inclusive and caring community.

Exciting New Inclusive Books in Our Library!

I am thrilled to announce a new section in our library dedicated to inclusive reading. This collection currently features 12 board books and 5 paperback books, all designed with symbolised and simplified dyslexia-friendly text to support diverse learners.

Each book includes a QR code that gives access to a free audiobook and signing video, making reading even more engaging and accessible. These are truly brilliant books and we are proud to be an inclusive school committed to growing this section further.

A huge thank you to our brilliant librarian, Ruth DeChastelain, for her time and dedication to bringing books to all our children.

Building Links for Safety

This week our PCSOs visited us once again and spoke to some children about being safe online and walking home safely. These sessions are so important to us because we want children to understand how to keep themselves safe. We value our strong links with the PCSOs and appreciate their ongoing support.

Walk-In Wednesday

Thank you to all the families who were able to attend Walk-In Wednesday this week! The focus was reading and it was wonderful to see so many brilliant books being shared. Your involvement makes a huge difference to our children’s love of reading – thank you.

Friday Assembly

We ended the week with another assembly led by Rowena from St Benedict’s Church. In the assembly Rowena… spoke to the children about Working Hard and Perseverance. We learned about the bible story, Noah’s Ark with some fabulous acting from Year 6!

Looking Ahead

As we move into next week we will continue to celebrate kindness, curiosity and hard work. Together, we are building a community where every child feels supported and inspired.

After this week, I thought these two quotes were particularly pertinent:

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." Aesop

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
